The green light to proceed more swiftly. Bishop Brendan Leahy reflects on the final document being the fruit of so many voices in harmony with each other; that we can own this document together which will greatly assist the Irish Synodal Pathway.
Sr Pat Murray IBVM told us, “I feel that this is another Vatican II moment…an enormous step forward for the Church” as she reflected on the outcome of the Universal Synod.
Fr Eamonn Conway underlines the strong call within the final document that participatory bodies like parish councils ‘be made mandatory’ as was requested at all stages of the synodal process and that they can fully play their role.
Sr Nathalie Becquart, Undersecretary for the Universal Synod, invited us to remember that “synodality is a learning by doing”.
Professor Rafael Luciani reminded us that this process, which began with the local churches is now inviting us to begin implementing synodal styles of leadership, processes and events at home!
