Sr. Placidus Lyng R.I.P.

A sense of deep regret and loss has been felt at the recent death of Sr. Placidus Lyng, of St. John of God Convent, Newtown Road, Wexford, by her family, community and a wide circle of friends.

Aged 97, Sr. Placidus a native ofTinnislatty, The Rower, Co. Kilkenny,passed away peacefully on Saturday July 28th•

After completing her education Sr. Placidus entered the St. John of God Novitiate in 1936.

During her life, Sr. Placidus showed a caring concern for all to whom she ministered to in the various houses of the congregation, she ministered in Kilmore, Co. Wexford. Ely Hospital, Torquay in Devon, owning, Co. Kilkenny, St. Columba’s Thomastown, Irish College, Rome, New ross District Hospital, Meals on Wheels, Wexford, retired to Wexford Convent in 1991., but continued to play an active role in the community there for many years.

In recent times Sr. Placidus experienced the weakness of old age, but was patient, gentle and always grateful for the many kindnesses shown to her. She loved the daily visits from the Sisters and also enjoyed visits from her family and friends.

Sr. Placidus was blessed with a beautiful singing voice and loved to entertain people. She was also blessed with a great love of sport, and that was very evident when her beloved Kilkenny were playing.

Sr. Placidus’s funeral Mass took place on Monday, July 30th• At St. John of God Convent. Her remains were interred in the Convent Cemetery.

She will be greatly missed by her nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, her community and many friends. May her gentle soul rest in peace.
