Child Safeguarding

Policy Statement

The Sisters of St. John of God cherish and affirm each child as a gift from God.  We are committed to safeguarding the dignity and rights of all children.

We do all in our power to create a safe environment for children.  We aim to ensure that none of our personnel engages in behaviour that could allow abuse to occur or actions that could be misinterpreted by children, their families or other adults as constituting, or leading to abuse.

Our Sisters in the Congregation and our employees are made aware of our policy and procedures on child safeguarding and are obliged to follow them.

If you have concern about abuse by a Sister of St. John of God, please contact either the Gardai (Kilkenny       056 7775000) or Tusla – Child and Family Agency (Kilkenny 056 7784713) or our Designated Liaison Person -       Sr. Mary Kavanagh 086 3376580 or the National Office for Safeguarding Children 01 5053124.

In all instances where it is known or suspected that a child has been or is being abused by one of our members or employees the matter will be reported to the civil authorities.

The report will be made without delay to the Gardai / PSNI in the area where the abuse is alleged to have taken place.  Where the suspected victim is a child, the relevant Tusla Office, Health Services Executive (HSE)/ Health and Social Care office (HSC) will be informed.

For obvious reasons, an undertaking of absolute confidentiality cannot be given to you when you make a complaint.
